HAYDN & FRIENDS
A special celebration concert in the iconic Pitchford Hall. Steven Devine - fortepiano Pavel Serbin - violoncello
Enjoy a Sunday afternoon listening to music of the Classical period in the wonderful, iconic, Pitchford Hall, with an optional visit to its famous Tree House.
The guided tour starts at 2pm. The concert commences at 3pm. Tea will be served in the Library after the concert.
The eighteenth century was a time of many great inventions in the fields of exploration, construction, art, science and music, with innovations of that period still influencing our daily lives and enabling us to experience great works of art and music.
The English Haydn Festival seeks to provide an insight into the "Classical" era of music, acknowledged to be from 1745 to 1835, by staging orchestral, quartet and instrumental group performances of compositions by Joseph Haydn together with those of his friends and pupils such as Mozart and Beethoven. This was an innovative period of time which ranged from the mid eighteenth century works by C.P.E. Bach, to the nineteenth century compositions of Felix Mendelssohn.
FESTIVAL WEEK CONCERTS at ST MARY MAGDALENE CHURCH, BRIDGNORTH
St Mary Magdalene Church, with its wonderful acoustics, is set in the beautiful hill-top market town of Bridgnorth overlooking the River Severn and provides a magnificent setting for the Festival. It was designed by Thomas Telford and built in 1792 at a time when Haydn was spending his celebrated years in London.

ANA BEARD FENANDEZ opera credits during her Master’s studies at the Royal College of Music, where she graduated with Distinction, include Agnès Written on Skin; Marie La Fille du Régiment; Controller Flight; and Miss Wordsworth Albert Herring in scenes. Ana performed Rodelinda (Handel), Louise (Charpentier), and Susanna (Floyd) in Masterclasses online with Lisette Oropesa and in-person with Lynn Eustice and Amand Hekkers, and was coached by Caroline Dowdle, Michael Lloyd, Lisa Engelbrecht, Andrew Robinson and John Blakely. In her spare time, Ana is a keen chef and has a lovely community of private students ages 4 - 78. She sings in the professional quartet at St Clement Danes church on The Strand in central London, where she is also the librarian, and hosts a concert series on the second Sunday of every month, celebrating up and coming talented musicians.
MIRANDA WESTCOTT read music at Birmingham University and studied performing on English National Opera’s course ‘The Knack’. Her studies continued privately with Jacqueline Bremar before attending the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. She gained a distinction on the Masters of Music course in 2005 with Robert Dean as her teacher and became a Samling Scholar in 2009. She recently completed eight months intensive work at Dennis O’Neill’s Cardiff International Academy of Voice.
TIMOTHY LANGSTON read Music at the University of Manchester and latterly at the Royal Northern College of Music. He set up Manchester Opera Ensemble and has since directed Menotti’s radio opera The Old Maid and the Thief and Britten’s The Turn of the Screw. Timothy previously sung with Opera North, European Opera Center, the Gabrieli Consort and British Youth Opera, as well as taking the role of an Apostle in Elgar’s The Apostles with The Hallé under the baton of Sir Mark Elder.
ANDREW SLATER has for more than a quarter of a century been singing principal roles with the UK opera companies - also sometimes in Europe and America. Thanks to the solid singing technique provided by the Royal Northern College Music in the 1980s his voice has remained fresh as the odd grey hair has arrived, and he now looks and sounds ideal for the low voice roles of nobility or malevolence which abound in the repertoire. He is also good as the fat funny bloke. There is, in fact a role to suit him in almost every opera. He is eternally good-humoured - taking as a blessing that his job is the activity he would do for fun around a conventional career. Being married to a soprano whose international career allows him to travel the world in style, and teaching a few students at the University of Huddersfield puts glorious icing on his cake.

The first album, released in Spring 2023 and featuring both the ‘1823’ and Op. 44 No. 3 quartets, has been described as ‘top-notch’ (Allmusic) and ‘exquisite’ (Pizzicato).
